First Line Friday – Ghost of a Chance

FLF-BlackHere’s a little peek into Chance’s world and some of the issues he faces as a ghost…

Ghosts don’t sleep. This had thrilled Chance at first. He envisioned an afterlife where he had all the time in the world to get things done.

Write the Great American Novel? He could do that in the wee hours when most of those in his corner of the world were blissfully dreaming.

Learn to play the guitar? Why not? Once he found an out of the way place to practice, he’d be all over that.

If only reality was more accommodating.

When the world went quiet around him, all Chance’s ideas seem to flee. That Great American Novel got pushed to the backburner. He’d yet to find a place to stash a guitar.

Instead, he roamed the halls.

He’d amused himself for a time trying to scare people, but that got old after a while. Plus, the manager of the hotel had threatened to have him exorcized if he didn’t stop scaring off the guests.

Chance had pouted about that for a few days. What good was being a ghost if he couldn’t even scare the pants off people?
