What I’m reading…

What I enjoy reading (much like what I enjoy writing) is all over the place. Seriously. All.Over.The.Place.

I bounce between paranormal romance and urban fantasy and post-apocalyptic romance and romantic suspense like a little kid on a candy high. Pretty much my only qualification when reading it that there be some sort of romance in it. Yeah, I like the romance. It’s tough to imagine, I know.

So…what have I been reading lately? Err…all sorts of things.

magicstealsI’m getting caught up on the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. I was a couple books and a handful of novellas behind. I ADORE Kate’s crazy, btw. Some day I hope to write a character as charmingly psychotic as Kate Daniels. Some day. I read Magic Steals this week and have Magic Breaks on tap.

For the record, I have a serious soft spot for novellas. Especially when they give us glimpses into the lives of characters we might not otherwise get to spend quality time with. Or when they flesh out the narrative and let us see events that might have been mentioned only in passing. Jim and Dali make me so giddy together.

Serious love!

I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I am insanely addicted to sci-fi romance. I love them so hard. To the point that I’m a wee bit shocked I haven’t written anything in that genre yet. Because sci-fi romances get my brain all fired up and I always want more. MOAR!

I’m in the middle of Assassin’s Awakening, the second book in the Project Alpha series by N.J. Walters. Sexy, brooding, genetically engineered soldiers being hunted down for termination by the people who created them? YES, PLEASE!

onenightI also snagged One Night by Amanda Shofner. This is a novella set in a new romantic suspense series. Let me tell you, this is some good writing. I’m not saying that just because I like her as a person, either. Amanda can write and write well. Amanda’s giving away One Night as a freebie to her newsletter subscribers, so you can judge for yourself how fun and well-written it is.

And because I like to torture myself with insanely well-written characters who are put into terrible, terrible situations, I’m working my way through Cast in Balefire by S.M. Reine. Sara’s books astound me. How she manages to keep all the characters and events in her different series straight while tying them together in the most glorious of ways makes me swoon. Seriously. If you enjoy gritty urban fantasy with plenty of mayhem and mystical shenanigans, I HIGHLY recommend pretty much everything she’s written. Her series all connect in some way and how she ties them all together will blow your mind.

Whelp, that’s what I’m reading this week. FUN STUFF!

  1. I need to get myself up to speed on the Kate Daniels series! I’ve had Magic Rises sitting on my TBR for waaaaay too long. And I know there have been more books since then.
